Chandigarh, August 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Congress on Friday announced the constitution of the Political Affairs Committee and Pradesh Election Committee of the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee, bringing several senior and prominent party leaders into the two key decision-making bodies.
Congress President has approved the constitution of both committees with immediate effect, according to an order issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on August 7, 2026.
Senior Congress leader and Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari has been included in both the Political Affairs Committee and the Pradesh Election Committee. Chandigarh Congress president H.S. Lucky also figures in both panels.
Former Union Minister Pawan Bansal has been included in the Political Affairs Committee, which comprises eight named members apart from its ex-officio members.

The Political Affairs Committee comprises:

The AICC In-charge for Chandigarh and AICC Secretaries attached to the AICC In-charge, Chandigarh, will be ex-officio members of the Political Affairs Committee.
Pradesh Election Committee
The Congress has also constituted a 16-member Pradesh Election Committee for Chandigarh.

The AICC In-charge for Chandigarh and AICC Secretaries attached to the AICC In-charge, Chandigarh, will also serve as ex-officio members of the Pradesh Election Committee.
In addition, the heads of all state frontal organisations have been designated as special invitees to the Pradesh Election Committee.
The constitution of the two panels gives the Chandigarh Congress its key organisational forums for political deliberations and election-related decision-making. While the Political Affairs Committee brings together senior leaders for important political and organisational matters, the Pradesh Election Committee will have a central role in the party’s electoral preparations and related decisions.
The appointments come into effect immediately.
The formal announcement was made through a press release signed by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal from the party headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, New Delhi.
