CM Mann approves setting up of Medical College in Malerkotla and Agriculture College in Kalanaur

Giving a major push to higher education in the state, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday approved setting up of Medical College at Malerkotla district and Agriculture College in Kalanaur (Gurdaspur).

A decision to this effect was taken by the Chief Minister while chairing a meeting here today.

Taking part in deliberations, the Chief Minister said that Medical College at Malerkotla will come up at Kot Sherwani. He expressed hope that this upcoming Medical College will act as a pivot for imparting quality Health services and Medical education to Punjab in general and Malwa region in particular. Bhagwant Mann also said that this college will emerge Malerkotla as hub of medical education on the roadmap of the country.

Dwelling on another agenda, the Chief Minister also approved setting up of an Agriculture College at Kalanaur town in Gurdaspur district. He said that besides providing education on the latest know how in the vast field of agriculture this college will be instrumental in giving impetus to progressive and mechanized farming in the border districts of the state. Bhagwant Mann said that such premier educational institutes in border region are the need of hour to give fillip to its progress and prosperity of people.

The Chief Minister directed the officers to ensure that the work on both these ambitious projects, to come up with central assistance, are completed in a time bound manner. He said that the state government is formulating several pro-people and development oriented schemes for the well being of people. Bhagwant Mann said that there is no dearth of funds for this purpose and impetus will be given to all round development of state.
