CM Channi has admitted that Congress govt doesn’t intend to implement complete farm loan waiver: Sukhbir Badal

Chandigarh,November 30, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal today said chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi had admitted that the Congress government did not have any intention of implementing a complete Rs 90,000 crore farm loan waiver promised to farmers of Punjab by swearing an oath on the holy Gutka Sahab, even as he accused Channi of resorting to trickery and treachery to squirm his way out of the commitment by putting the onus of the same on the central government.

Reacting to a letter written by the chief minister to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue, the SAD president said “it is clear that the Punjab Congress want to do a double whammy on farmers of Punjab.

Farmers were tricked into believing the Congress government would waive off their loans on the eve of the 2017 assembly elections by then Pradesh Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh. Now after deceiving and betraying the trust of farmers, Channi is again trying to trick farmers into believing that their loans will be waived off in conjunction with the central government”.

Accusing the chief minister of committing a crime against farmers as well as humanity at large, Mr Sukhbir Badal said “Mr Channi’s letter is not worth the paper it is printed upon. It is a matter of record that the complete farm loan waiver was promised by the Congress party and not the central government.

The farm loan waiver formed a part of the election manifesto of the Congress party in Punjab and it is its government which is honour bound to fulfill it and not the centre. Writing to the centre urging it take on half this responsibility amounts to playing with the sentiments of farmers.

Everyone knows this letter has no locus-standee and will not be considered. This will give the Congress party an excuse to play politics on the issue by blaming the central government for not taking on half of the farm loan waiver burden”.

Asking the chief minister not to run away from fulfilling the solemn promise made to the farmers of Punjab, Mr Badal said the former had admitted in the letter that the Congress party had failed abysmally to implement its complete farm loan waiver promise. “Earlier the Congress government had tried to pull the wool over the eyes of Punjabis by making false claims on this issue.

They stand thoroughly exposed”. Mr Badal said the chief minister had also admitted in his letter that the Congress government had led thousands of farmers to commit suicide because it failed to waive off their loans as promised. “Mr Channi has also admitted that farmers are being harassed and that recoveries are being made from them”.

Stating that the proud farmers would never believe any word of the Congress government or its chief minister ever again, Mr Badal said “going by Mr Channi’s logic he will turn around and say that fifty per cent of all promises being made by the Congress should be fulfilled by non-Congress governments at the centre.

Tomorrow he might write a letter to the PM urging him to take the responsibility of half of all reliefs promised to the people of Punjab including reduction in their power tariff by Rs 3 per unit. Punjabis might just start halving all promises made by the Congress party in future also”.

Stating that the SAD had always asserted that the Congress was a party of liars, Mr Badal said the chief minister had admitted so himself today. “It is now clear that the Congress cannot be relied upon to speak the truth. It is also clear that the complete farm loan waiver scheme is officially dead. It is also clear that all other promises made to the people including reducing power tariff by Rs 3 per unit will meet the same fate”.
