CM Bhagwant Mann Seeks Live Telecast of His Appearance at Akal Takht on January 15

Chandigarh, January 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who has been summoned by the Akal Takht, has requested that the proceedings during his appearance on January 15 be telecast live to ensure complete transparency.

In a message addressed to officiating Jathedar Kuldip Singh Gargaj, the Chief Minister said that arrangements should be made for a live broadcast when he presents clarification and documentary evidence related to the account of the Guru Ki Golak (donations). He said he would personally attend the proceedings with all relevant records.

In a post shared in Punjabi on social media platform X, Mann said he has been receiving messages from Sikhs across the world urging that the presentation of the golak accounts before the sangat be broadcast live on all channels. Respecting the sentiments of the global Sikh community, he requested that his clarification be telecast live so that the sangat remains informed at every stage and with full transparency regarding each detail and every rupee involved. He added that he would appear on January 15 with evidence.

Earlier, officiating Jathedar Kuldip Singh Gargaj had summoned the Chief Minister to appear at the Akal Takht Secretariat on January 15, seeking an explanation over his alleged remarks against Sikh institutions and principles. The Jathedar stated that the summons was issued in response to repeated statements attributed to Mann, which allegedly hurt religious sentiments.

The Jathedar further alleged that the Chief Minister had made objectionable remarks concerning core Sikh concepts such as Daswandh and Guru Ki Golak, and that certain videos showed actions perceived as disrespectful toward images of the Sikh Gurus and Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

It was also clarified that since Mann is not considered a Sabat Surat Sikh, he was directed to appear before the Akal Takht Secretariat rather than the fasil of the Takht.

Responding to the summons earlier, Mann had said he respects the directive of the Akal Takht and would appear “as a humble Sikh, not as the Chief Minister,” adding that he would attend barefoot. He also stated that despite the President of India’s scheduled visit to Amritsar on the same day, he would seek leave from that event, asserting that for him, the Akal Takht holds the highest importance.
