The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday conducted a search at the residence of K.K. Chandravanshi, also referred to as K.K. Chandrakar, a former personal assistant to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, as part of its money-laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) examinations.
According to sources, a team of five to eight ED officials reached Chandravanshi’s residence in the Old Bhilai area of Durg district around 6 a.m. in two vehicles. Security personnel were deployed at the location as the officials examined documents and other material inside the premises.
The agency has not yet issued an official statement detailing the material being scrutinised or the findings of the search.
The action is part of a wider ED operation at seven locations across Chhattisgarh. The searches were initiated by the agency’s Raipur zonal office based on specific intelligence and were conducted with the assistance of security forces and state police.
The money-laundering probe concerns alleged leakage and manipulation of question papers for the CGPSC State Service Examinations conducted in 2020 and 2021.
The latest searches come after the ED arrested former CGPSC chairman Taman Singh Sonwani on July 25 in the same investigation. The ED case stems from an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2024 following a complaint by the Chhattisgarh Police after the change of government in the state.
Chandravanshi, who was originally a Grade-1 officer in the Agriculture Department, had served as Baghel’s personal assistant for an extended period.
The searches could further intensify the political confrontation in Chhattisgarh, with the possibility of protests by the Congress. However, the ED has not formally disclosed the outcome of Tuesday’s operation, and the full details are expected to emerge after the searches are completed.
