Chandigarh, August 9, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Deflating the claim of Punjab technical education minister Charanjit Singh Channi that the government would start four Industrial training institutes from the current academic session, deputy leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Pawan Kumar Tinu said all the four ITI s were started during the tenure of the last SAD-BJP government and now the congress government is trying to take credit for the same.

Dubbing Channi’s claim as false, shrewd and misleading, Tinnu said the all these institutes were conceived by the previous government but the incoming government had arbitrarily shelved the plan for over two and half years and now has just announced their revival but nothing has been done on the ground. Moreover, each ITI was to have 12 trades but now the number of trades has been revised to two to three trades.

Tinu said that before making the announcement, Channi should have offered a public apology for having failed to immediately start all the four ITIs after having given an assurance on the floor of the Punjab assembly in 2017 itself that these ITIs would become functional within six months. Also he should regret that in no uncertain terms that he is starting these with only couple of trades and hold a promise that within six months, ten more trades would added to each these ITI s. .

Tinu was shocked to learn that the Teachers & staff posts for these ITI s are yet to be sanctioned and how the minister would ensure starting of current academic session.

Tinu reminded the minister that the four ITI s at Maloud in Ludhiana, Adampur in Jalandhar), Singhpura in Ropar and Manakpur Sharif in SAS Nagar were conceived, land for their campuses was acquired , buildings were constructed and matching grant from the Union government was arranged and almost everything was accomplished.

Moreover, the academic session at Adampur institute with 12 trades –like refrigeration, Turners, Computer applications, engine mechanic etc. were started in Nov.2016 and the classes started too.

However, new Congress government in 2017 immediately shelved the ITI s and closed the Adampur center and its students were transferred to other institutes. Since the institutes were not nearby, most of the students dropped out and others too face lot of difficulties. The Congress government owe apology to the students who had to discontinue their studies.
