The Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) has accused the Charanjit Singh Channi led Punjab Government of shielding former DGP Sumedh Saini.
While addressing a press conference here today, senior party leader, MLA and former Finance Minister, S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa said that Chief Minister, Sh. Charanjit Singh Channi and his entire government machinery is working to save Samedh Saini at any cost.
S. Dhindsa also shared a video of the case being heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case of the creation of disproportionate assets against Sumedh Saini by the Vigilance Bureau. In this video, the public prosecutor is assisting in the bail of Sumedh Saini instead of opposing his interim bail. Sumedh Saini’s bail application was not objected by the public prosecutor in the High Court and because of this, he was easily granted bail by the court.
S. Dhindsa said that this clearly proves that in this matter, even the Channi government is also trying to befool the people of Punjab like its predecessor. S. Dhindsa has demanded the resignation of the entire government machinery including the Chief Minister.
S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa said that the Channi government has given safe passage to Sumedh Saini in this case and also the leniency shown against Sumedh Saini has proved that even during the tenure of the Channi government the families of innocent Sikhs who lost their lives in the Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura shootings will find it very difficult to get justice, he added.
S. Dhindsa said that if the government had acted with impartiality and determination then Sumedh Saini had been locked behind bars till now, for the new and old cases against him including Behbal Kalan.
S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa alleged that the Channi government is trying to save Saini by hiding innumerable loopholes in everything. The government has been misleading the people and the law. He said that if an influential person like Sumedh Saini can escape in such a very serious and sensitive case then the confidence of the people in the government machinery and judiciary has certainly broken.
