Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Sunil Jakhar has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government is liable for criminal mismanagement of Covid pandemic. The centre has totally left people on their own, Jakhar said targetting centre for failing to do its responsibility in this gravest hour and failing to provide medicines, vaccines and other necessary supplies to citizens.
In a hard-hitting statement issued here today, Jakhar said that Congress Party has today submitted memorandum to the President of India to give voice to the demand of each and every citizen of the country for urgent avaialibility of vaccines to safeguard lives.
He said that the memorandum has been forwarded to the President through the Governor. The memorandum was submitted to the Punjab Governor Office as the Governor himself was not available. Besides this, district bodies of the party also submitted these memorandums to the respective Deputy Commissioners.
The state Congress Chief said that centre’s vaccine policy is the sum of unbearable errors of judgement on part of Modi regime. The BJP government has forsaken its duty towards the nation, he said.
Illogical and arbitrary pricing of vaccines, failing to gauge the likely need of number of jabs needed, and then abjectly failing to place orders in advance are grave mistakes. That’s why, Jakhar said, that only 3.17 percent population has been inoculated so far at a pace which is painfully slow, and if we drag at this pace it will take us three years before we fully vaccinate our citizens.
On arbitrary vaccine pricing, Jakhar castigated centre and said that after procuring one Covishield dose at Rs 150, centre is selling the same to states at double the price, and even further to private hospitals at Rs 600. At the same time, the price of Covaxin for centre is Rs 150, while Modi government is giving it to states at 600 and for 1200 to private hospitals.
Congress party has demanded that minimum of 1 Crore citizens must be vaccinated daily and centre must provide vaccines free to states. This is the only way to come out of this dire situation, he said adding that Modi government must now think about our citizens and not be worried about interest of private companies.
