Case of elderly woman’s maltreatment by kin: Manisha Gulati asks officers to provide justice

Chairperson of the Punjab State Women Commission Mrs Manisha Gulati today held the personal hearing regarding alleged mal treatment of an old woman of village Raimal Majri at Circuit House Patiala.

The Chairperson asked the civil and Police administration to ensure neutral investigation into the case besides ensuring that woman gets fixed monthly expenditure. Interacting with the media persons Mrs Gulati said that she was making concerted efforts to get passed bill regarding speedy justice to women which was pending in the Parliament. She said that she had been calling in the MLAs and MPs from Punjab in this regard.

The Chairperson said that she proposes to organise a meeting of all DCs and SSPs under Chairmanship of Chief Minister to resolve the complaints of old women at the earliest. She said that to ensure justice to women, special Lok Adalat will be organised at district level. Mrs Gulati said that in case pertaining to village of Raimal Majri, a case has been registered under section 323, 342, 506 and 34 of IPC at Bhadson Police station.

The Chairperson also said that allegations pertaining to indifferent attitude of SDM towards complaint of old aged women would also be examined. She said that commission was also looking into all such complaints pending in various SDM offices. She said that such incidents were a blot on the face of humanity and presented the ugly face of society. She said that commission and administrative machinery can work within legal framework only.

Replying to a query she said that commission was getting 200-300 complaints daily whereas 6500 complaints were pending. She said that about17,000 complaints have been received on WhatsApp only. She said that it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction that Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is doing great job for well being and security of women.

On the occasion Senior Visce Chairperson Bimla Sharma, Member Inderjit Kaur, Deputy Commissioner Mr Kumar Amit, SSP Dr Sandeep Garg, ADC Pooja Sayal Grewal, SP Harkamal Kaur, SDM Kanu Garg, Assistant Commissioner Jasleen Kaur Bhullar and others were also present.
