Capt Amarinder to confer Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award on Malaika Goel for achievements in Shooting

22-year old Malaika Goel daughter of Sandeep Goel, SSP Ferozepur, will be conferred with Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award, keeping in view of her distinctions in sports event of shooting.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award is an award given by the Government of Punjab for excellence and achievement in the service of Punjab in the field of Sport.

There are around 30 sports disciplines that are eligible for the award. Padma Shri awardees, Arjuna awardees and Rajiv Gandhi Khel awardees who are domiciles of the state become automatically eligible for this award.

The award was instituted in 1978 it consists of a trophy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, honouree citation and 1 lacs Rupees. During the 2011 sports policy, the award money was enhanced to Rs two lacs.

Extending the invitation to attend the award ceremony, Amrit Kaur Gill, Director Sports Punjab and Secretary Punjab State Sports Council, congratulated Malaika Goel for her selection for the highest award. The award includes Trophy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh on horse in a war-dress, scroll and cash prize of Rs.2 lac to be conferred by Chief Minister, Punjab at a ceremony on July 9 at Hiyyat Regency, Chandigarh.

Malaika Goel, a resident of Ludhiana, who at 16 years 9 months became one of the country’s youngest Commonwealth Games medalists and the secret to her success, is the documentary ‘The Secret’.

Her father, Sandeep Goel, SSP presently posted at Ferozepur, shared the school time moments when she was just 10-year-old that she needed to pick at least one sport. Encouraged by her parents, Malaika who wanted to shoot professionally (it was never a hobby) has a long list of merits to her credit which made the country proud and inspired many young shooters.

Among the major achievements of Malaika, starting from 2013-2018, participation in World Cup/World Championship at Maribor Slovenia, Germany, USA, Spain and Korea, she also bagged Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as individual and team at Tehran(Iran), Gabala(Azerbaijan), Suhl Germany, Czech-Republic, New Delhi, India, Kuwait, China, and Tehran Iran.

Malaika has never looked back in bagging the Gold, Bronze and Silver Medals in National Shooting Championships held at Pune, New Delhi.

At All India Inter-University Shooting Championships held at BHU Varanasi, Amritsar, Chandigarh held in 2016, 2017 and 2018, again she bagged Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals both as individual and team.

Another feather to her achievements are in All India KSS Shooting Championship when she won Bronze Medal in 2013 and Silver Medal in 2017 at New Delhi.

Major achievements starting from 57th National Shooting Championship Competition, New Delhi in 2013, Malaika won Gold Medals as Individual and Team also, followed by Silver Medal in Commonwealth Games Glasgow in 2014 besides participation in 17th Asian Games Incheon, Korea in 2014, World Cup Seniors in 2013, 2014, Junion World Championship
