Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state President and Member of Parliament (MP) Bhagwant Mann has raised questions over the shoddy functioning of Capt Amarinder Singh government in the state to address the global phenomenon Covid-19, saying that it should, instead of indulging in political gimmickry on killer corona virus, take a cue from the Kejriwal government in Delhi and make immediate public announcements to effectively deal with the deadly virus, making the national lockdown a success.
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Friday, Bhagwant Mann said that the spectre of coronavirus could be controlled only by staying indoors, adding that to effectively implement the lockdown or curfew a success only advisories were not suffice but making adequate arrangements for the daily needs of those who earn their livelihood working on a daily wage basis.
Mann said that if the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi was providing food to over 10 lakh poor and needy people on a daily basis, why couldn’t the Punjab government make such arrangements?
Mann said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had ordered transfer of Rs 5,000 each, to the bank accounts of all drivers auto operators, taxi drivers and other public service vehicles in the next 10 days, saying that the Capt. Amarinder Singh government should take immediate steps in this regard.
The AAP MP said that each and every citizen of the country was vigilant and was ready to follow the guidelines laid down by the government and doctors to duck the outbreak of coronavirus, provided the families of the poor and needy had sufficient food to eat and drinking water to quench their thirst, besides essential healthcre at doorstep, till the government announced lifting of curfew curb after establishing decisive win on the pandemic.
Mann alleged that ration cards of a large number of the poor and the needy had not been renewed in Punjab for unspecified reasons, saying that the government should continue to provide ration to the poor and needy for the next three months on the basis of their old ration cards without making any distinctions whatsoever, saying the exercise of renewal of ration cards could be started afresh after the big battle against corona was over.
Mann questioned “If Delhi’s Kejriwal government can arrange ration without ration cards to more than 4 lakh families amid coronavirus scare, why can’t the Captain government do so?” He also alleged the ruling Congress ministers, MLAs and local leaders were indulging in a gross discrimination in the name of distributing rations to the poor and the needy just to earn some political brownie points which, he said, was a wrong precedent.
