Capt Amarinder should convene all-party meeting on SYL, water issues: Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, August 20, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president and Member of Parliament (MP) Bhagwant Mann on Thursday demanded that Punjab chief minister (CM) Amarinder Singh should immediately convene an all-party meeting on the issue of SYL and the open ‘loot’ of Punjab river waters.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Thursday, state unit chief Bhagwant Mann and Leader of Opposition (LoP), Harpal Singh Cheema said that chief minister Amarinder Singh should immediately convene a joint meeting of all political parties to send out a message loud and clear to the union and state governments that Punjab had not a single drop of excess water to share with any other state.

He added that the government in the saddle should make Punjab’s stand clear on the issue and take steps to stop an open ‘loot’ of the river waters by the states of Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.

Bhagwant Mann on the occasion said: “Punjab waters have been subjected to an open ‘loot’ under a deep conspiracy, throwing all constitutional norms to the winds. It was obligatory on the part of the government to ensure that there is no further ‘loot’ of the river waters, failing which no one can stop the state turning into a desert in the near future”

The AAP MP reiterated that convening of an immediate special Assembly session on the burning issues, including the rampant ‘loot’ of Punjab waters, SYL canal, anti-farm ordinances and electricity (Amendment) 2020 was the need of the hour. He said the Assembly session being convened on August 28 for a day, which was an approximate 4-hour long as a matter of fact, would be too short to discuss threadbare the issues of core concern.

Bhagwant Mann and Harpal Cheema informed the union government was set to convene the Monsoon session of Parliament in the month of September 2020 and, therefore, it was necessary to have the anti-farm ordinances and electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020 pushed by the union government abrogated.
