Capt Amarinder, his ministers & Congress MLAs betrayed farmers by running away from protests: SAD

Chandigarh, September 25, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, his Cabinet colleagues and Congress MLAs have once again betrayed farmers by running away from farmer protests being held throughout the state today as no senior Congress leader attended protests anywhere in the state today. This was stated by Senior Vice President and Spokesman of the Shiromani Akali Dal Dr.Dalit Singh Cheema today.

In a statement released here, Dr. Cheema said that is is most unfortunate to see that when the farmers protested not only in Punjab alone today but in whole country, programme of which was announced much earlier, majority of the senior congress leaders skipped these protests.

He said that the SAD not only contributed in these protests by its ‘Chakka Jam’ programme and stood with the farming community, but CM, his ministerial colleagues and Congress MLAs and other leaders were turned their back towards these protests which is highly condemnable.

Dr. Cheema said that running away of Capt. Amarinder Singh and his colleagues is not surprising as it is on the lines of policy adopted by top Congress leadership at the national level. He said that its top leadership including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Kapil Sibbal, P Chidambram and others senior leaders skipped the debate and only Punjab MPs were deputed to opposed these bills only orally but when the voting took place they also ran away.

He said that not only this alone, the Congress asked its Maharashtra ally Shiv Sena to vote in favour of anti farmer bills. He said that if the Sena voted in favour of bill without consulting alliance partner then the Congress should withdraw support from it.

The SAD leader said that what Congress did today in Punjab was only an eyewash because Congress itself is interested in such law. He said that Capt. Amarinder Singh amended the state APMC act in 2017 as per his promise and the same promise was included in 2019 party Manifesto during Parliamentary polls.

He said that the callous approach shown in Punjab towards farmers protests is because the Congress was always interested in framing of such laws in the country and infact they brought one in Punjab.

The SAD leader said that on the other hand the SAD vehemently opposed these bills in Parliament and voted against them and its lone representative in Cabinet resigned for not heeding to farmer’s requests.

He said that the party cadre today took to streets in Punjab expressing solidarity with farmers but it is shameful to see that Capt. Amarinder Singh, his cabinet colleagues and other senior leadersiop skipped these protests leaving farmers in lurch.
