Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has expressed profound grief over the death of Major General (Retd.) Surinder Paul Singh Grewal (Corps of Signals) and Chairman-cum-Managing Director Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation.
Grewal, who passed away in a private hospital at Mohali after a brief illness this evening, was 69. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister described Maj. Gen. Grewal as a distinguished, disciplined and astute officer, who served the Indian Army in various capacities. Recalling his warm ties with SPS Grewal, the Chief Minister termed his death as a personal loss.
The defence fraternity had lost a great soldier and an able administrator, who worked hard for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, said Captain Amarinder, sharing his sympathies with the deceased’s family.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister’s Senior Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) TS Shergill also mourned the death of SPS Grewal, with whom he shared close ties.
According to family sources, Maj. Gen. Grewal would be cremated at the Sector-25 cremation grounds here at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
