Capt Amarinder calls up DCs of flood-prone districts in wake of heavy rain

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered Deputy Commissioners in districts affected by heavy rain to remain alert and prepared to deal with emergencies, and to make adequate arrangements for the security and safety of people, as well as their property and livestock.

The Chief Minister, who is personally monitoring the situation, has asked the DCs to maintain strict vigil and be ready to tackle any exigency arising out of the situation. The Chief Minister is in constant touch with the administrative and other departments in the areas facing the threat of flooding. He personally called up the DCs of Patiala, Bathinda, Sangrur and Mohali to take stock of the ground situation in these districts.

Captain Amarinder Singh asked the Deputy Commissioners to activate the flood control rooms, along with dedicated helplines, for ensuring immediate onward transmission of information at various levels at the State Headquarters to ensure prompt action.

He further asked the DCs to put in place evacuation plans, including provisioning of boats to ferry people stuck in flood hit areas to safer places in case of heavy downpour in the coming days.

The Chief Minister also directed the Principal Secretary Water Resources to keep liaison closely with the Canal and Drainage staff in these districts for immediate execution of flood protection works in the vulnerable areas. He also instructed the department to immediate deploy teams to ensure dewatering of waterlogged areas.

According to an official spokesperson, Captain Amarinder has directed the Civil Surgeons of these districts to ensure sufficient stock of medicines to combat possible outbreak of water-borne diseases.

He has also asked the Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry to tie up with the Deputy Directors Animal Husbandry in these districts to ensure requisite supply of medicines and fodder for the milch-cattle.

The Chief Minister issued directives to PWD Department for immediate repair of the damage infrastructure and roads and installations, if any.
