Cancellation of Ration Cards: AAP threatens to launch state-wide stir

Chandigarh, July 7, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab on Tuesday handed over memorandums to the government of Punjab through the Deputy Commissioners against the cancellation of ration cards of lakhs of needy poor/ dalits in the state by the Capt. Amarinder Singh government, demanding immediate restoration of the ration card so that the needy beneficiaries, who were deprived of rations due to the Corona epidemic could have their two square meals a day.

State SC Wing President Manjit Singh Bilaspur and Co-President Kulwant Singh Pandori (both MLAs) said that while the governments all over the world were initiating steps to bail out the people trapped in a situation due to the ongoing Corona epidemic, by announcing various concessions and financial reliefs, the ruling Congress government in Punjab led by Capt Amarinder Singh was depriving the poor and needy of their legitimate rights of sustenance.

The AAP leaders said that in this hour of global crisis caused by the Corona epidemic, the government should have come to the rescue of the poor and needy and Dalit families and ensured uninterrupted home delivery chain of rations as per their need.

They said Capt Amarinder Singh needed to learn from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal how to help the poor and needy in such a challenging situation were taken care of, adding millions of needy families in Delhi were provided rations and essential items without ration cards.

The AAP MLAs said that those in Punjab, who were earlier getting supply of ration, were also deprived of their due ration, as ration cards of lakhs of beneficiaries all over Punjab were cancelled without any criteria, which reflected the anti-poor and anti-Dalit face of the government.

Manjeet Singh Bilaspur said that on the other hand 10,000 metric tonnes of pulses and 70,725 metric tonnes of food grains was despatched to Punjab, as claimed by the Union government, but the rations were not distributed among the beneficiaries, questioning whether the same was diverted by the Congress party representatives or the union government never sent the supplies as the needy never received said rations.

The AAP leaders threaten the government that if the ration cards of the eligible beneficiaries were not restored without soon, the SC wing of the Aam Aadmi Party would take a firm stand against the government and stage state level protests.
