Today at Baba Baghel Singh Sikh Heritage Multimedia Museum, Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib, an eleven-member delegation from the British Army led by Major General John Candle visited the museum and participated in a solemn ceremony.
On this occasion, a sacred stone from the ruins of the historic Saragarhi Post, where 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment laid down their lives defending the fort facing over 10,000 invaders, was ceremonially installed.
The stone was brought to India by Mr. Gurinder Pal Singh Josan, Chairman, Saragarhi Foundation, who accompanied the delegation. The installation was facilitated by Padma Shri Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), in the presence of Major General John Kandel and Sr. Surjit Singh, Chairman, Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib, and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney said, This sacred stone stands as a living reminder of the unmatched bravery and supreme sacrifice of the 21 Sikh soldiers under the leadership of Havildar Ishar Singh at Saragarhi. It is not just a historic relic, but a beacon of courage that will inspire generations to come to uphold honour, duty, and service to the nation.
Dr. Sahney informed that he had the privilege to renovate the Saragarhi Memorial in Ferozepur in 2023 by providing funds of ₹50 lakh, and today it stands as a prominent tourist destination of Punjab inspiring countless visitors.
In 2022, on the 125th anniversary of the Battle of Saragarhi, he organized a grand commemorative event where Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh Ji (Retd) was the Chief Guest in New Delhi.
Dr. Sahney also unveiled the portraits of the 21 martyrs of Saragarhi and the battle’s historical panels at the museum.
