This week Regional Councillor and Chair of Economic Development, Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, returned from a successful trade mission in Turkey as part of Brampton’s new Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) strategy where he met with both business leaders and government officials
Councillor Dhillon joined the Canada-Turkey Business Council at the event which took place at both the financial centre of Istanbul, and capital city of Ankara.
The mission was focused on expanding relations and business ties between the two countries, where Councillor Dhillon had one-to-one meetings with both business leaders and leading industry professionals in identified sectors of IT, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Manufacturing, and Health & Life Sciences, in order to pitch and highlight the opportunities that exist in Brampton.
As well, Councillor Dhillon also held private offsite meetings with 12 privately-owned I.T. companies interested in expanding their business outside of Europe.
“The intent of this mission was to generate leads and build links with Turkish businesses so they can expand their business in Brampton,” noted Councillor Dhillon. “There was great interest shown by potential investors, and the dialogue will continue further with our Economic Development office.”
“With the second fastest growing city in Canada, the youngest population, ample land and office supply, and one of the most diverse workforces in the world, Brampton was absolutely showcased as a prime location to invest.”
Along with the mission, Councillor Dhillon also toured key infrastructure projects and transit sites.
Brampton’s FDI strategy to bring foreign investment is key to delivering the City’s Economic Development Master Plan (EDMP) and Brampton 2040 Vision. Specifically, FDI will fill gaps in the supply chain; diversify the tax base; promote economic growth; and raise Brampton’s profile globally as a competitive place to do business.
