Brampton City Councillors Gurpreet Singh Dhillon & Harkirat Singh host successful Trucker Town Hall

Brampton, ON, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

This past Saturday, August 17th, 2019, Brampton Regional Councillor Gurpreet Singh Dhillon and City Councillor Harkirat Singh hosted a ‘Trucker Town Hall’ to bring together Brampton’s trucking community to discuss issues faced by the industry.

The meeting was held at Gore Meadows Community Centre where approximately 60 members of the trucking industry participated and provided both Councillors and city staff with valuable input. Municipally related issues raised were the need for more truck parking city-wide; less restrictions on specific regional and city roads; and more truck stops within Brampton.

Provincial related issues raised were the expediting the new Highway 413, and eliminating the speed restrictors within trucks that do not allow trucks to travel over 105 km/h.

“In my knowledge, this was the first time a public forum was held specifically for Brampton’s trucking industry. I thank all those that came out to voice their concerns. We heard directly from the industry and this forum gave these truckers a space to be heard,” said Councillor Dhillon.

“We have heard the concerns and issues faced by our logistics community. We will take back the information we gathered and work with our Provincial and federal counterparts to ensure truckers are getting their fair share,” said Councillor Singh.

The results from the town hall will be shared with local MPs and MPPs.
