Punjab Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Comrade Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon strongly condemned the recent controversial remarks made by BJP MP Giriraj Singh, terming them as a “clear reflection of the BJP’s hatred towards minorities.”
He said that comparing the minorities of the country with words like “salt harami” exposes the narrow-mindedness of the ruling party and its disregard for India’s secular values.
Comrade Sekhon stated that such comments cannot be dismissed as personal opinions, as they represent the mindset of the party. “The Constitution of India is secular and guarantees equal respect to all religions, castes, and communities. The use of such language by a senior BJP leader is a direct insult to the spirit of our Constitution,” he said.
He emphasized that Giriraj Singh’s remarks target all minority communities, including Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Muslims. “This kind of divisive rhetoric spreads hatred and threatens communal harmony,” he added.
Comrade Sekhon demanded that if the BJP truly believes in the secular Constitution, it should expel Giriraj Singh from the party and revoke his Lok Sabha membership. He also urged the minority communities to come together, discuss the BJP’s ideology and policies, and form a united front to protect the secular and democratic fabric of the nation.
