Bihar: Rs 27 lakh looted from cash van in daylight Patna robbery

Patna, May 13, 2026

In a brazen act that has raised serious concerns over law and order, criminals carried out a daring daylight robbery in Patna, looting Rs 27 lakh from a cash van under the jurisdiction of Gopalpur Police Station, Patna, on Wednesday.

According to the initial investigation, unidentified assailants targeted a cash van operated by CMS Info Systems, threatening personnel at gunpoint before fleeing with the cash.

The incident triggered panic in the area and prompted an immediate police response.

Soon after the incident, Patna’s East Superintendent of Police Parichay Kumar reached the crime scene and conducted a detailed inspection.

Police teams have launched a comprehensive investigation, including the examination of closed-circuit television footage of the van and the surrounding area.

The team has also called the Forensic Science Laboratory to collect evidence from the crime scene, and technical analysis is underway to identify suspects.

Parichay Kumar stated that around five criminals, arriving on motorcycles, executed the robbery with precision and escaped swiftly after intimidating the cash van staff.

During the preliminary probe, investigators uncovered significant lapses in security protocols.

The police found that the van’s windows were open and the vehicle was not locked from the inside.

As a result, the driver and the armed guard of the cash van are being questioned intensively to determine whether negligence played a role.

Parichay Kumar also highlighted that standard operating procedures were not followed.

“Typically, local police must be informed when large sums of cash are transported. However, in this case, no prior information was shared with the concerned police station by CMS,” he said.

Authorities are treating this lapse seriously and are investigating possible procedural violations.

Police teams are conducting raids based on human intelligence inputs.

Officials have assured that the accused will be identified and arrested soon.

The incident has once again sparked concerns over urban security and adherence to safety protocols in cash transportation systems.(Agency)
