The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that Bibi Jagir Kaur has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sangat commemorating the June 1984 Sikh Genocide with her controversial statement.
He said that in an interview given to an English newspaper, Bibi Jagir Kaur rubbed salt in the wounds of Sikhs by talking about giving a chance on the platform of ‘Shiromani Akali Panth Board’, even to a person associated with Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for contesting SGPC elections.
He said that on the one hand, the Sikh community is observing emotional moments during the Ghallughara (holocaust) week, while on the other hand, Bibi Jagir Kaur is welcoming the Congress class accused of Sikh Genocide for contesting SGPC elections. He said this is an act of promoting anti-Sikh ideology, which cannot be tolerated.
SGPC President said that Bibi Jagir Kaur is forgetting the community’s interests for her political interests.
“If Bibi Jagir Kaur wants to give a platform to Congress class, which murdered Sikhs for SGPC elections, then it means that she accepts the Sikh genocide”, said Harjinder Singh Dhami.
He said that the management of the SGPC has always been in the hands of pro-Panth people and in the future also, the people will elect those with Panthic thinking. The Sangat will not accept those people who wish to contest SGPC elections with the intention of occupying the Gurdwara Sahibs only. He said that many such attempts have been made before this, but those who did so never succeeded.
He said that the then Punjab Chief Minister of Congress party Pratap Singh Kairon and Captain Amarinder Singh also made a mischievous attempt to occupy the Gurdwara Sahibs during their times but they failed. He said now Bibi Jagir Kaur wants to follow the same path and take over the management of Gurdwara Sahibs. Her statement has made it clear that she will not refrain from taking support of anti-Panth people.
SGPC President questioned whether this is a step towards Panthic Sewa (voluntary service) or a process of handing over Sikh institutions to anti-Panth forces. He said that the statement of Bibi Jagir Kaur exposed her reality before the Sangat and now there is no doubt about her so-called Panthic ideology.
