Bhagwant Mann seeks Modi’s intervention as over 8 lakh Indians in Kuwait face deportation

Chandigarh, July 7, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab state president and MP Bhagwant Mann has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the issue surrounding the lives and livelihood of 8 lakh Indians working in Kuwait for years now, seeking his personal intervention.

In a letter written to prime minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, Bhagwant Mann said the Kuwait government had started the process of reducing the number of foreign workers in that country, saying that more than 8 lakh Indians working there for years might face deportation if the foreign quota Bill got the nod of the Kuwait parliamentary committee.

Bhagwant Mann appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter, saying, “Of course, it is an independent decision of the Kuwaiti government, but it will have its ramifications on the Indians presently working there. So, Prime Minister Narendra Modi must intervene to protect the Indian citizens there” He beseeched the PM to urge the Kuwaiti government to reconsider its decision so as to save the Indian people working for decades, who, he added, went there in search of pastures after facing great hardships and hiccups.

Mann, in his emotive letter, said that if the Kuwaiti government deported 8 lakh Indians to India, the unemployment crisis in the country would deepen enormously, for sure, besides hitting hard the staggering Indian economy, saying the Indian Government should use its diplomatic ties to save the people trapped there. Mann added the Indians facing deportation were, among others, a large number people from Punjab, Kerala and other states of the country.

In the letter, the AAP MP lashed out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, saying that if the Government headed by them kept their poll promises of giving 20 million jobs to youth every year and the Amarinder Singh government the ‘ghar-ghar naukri’, the harried youth would not gone in search of greener pastures.

Mann on an emotive note appealed to the Prime Minister to come to the rescue of the people trapped in a predicament, saying that the Corona epidemic had taken a heavy toll employment opportunities for Indians working around the world, by creating ample employment opportunities in the country.
