Bhagwant Mann seeks legal action against Congress’ Patti MLA Harminder Gill for threatening SHO

Chandigarh, May 5, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab, taking strong exception to the incident involving Patti Congress MLA Harminder Singh Gill in insulting and threatening the Harike Pattan police station house officer (SHO), has sought registration of a case against Gill and his immediate expulsion from the Congress party.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters Tuesday, state unit president and Parliamentarian Bhagwant Mann and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema have demanded immediate registration of a legal case against Harminder Singh Gill on the charge of obstructing and threatening a public servant from performing his official duty.

Bhagwant Mann said that what power-drunk legislator Harminder Singh Gill had done was a reflection of how the ruling party leaders, MLAs and ministers had been involved in threatening and browbeating police and administrative officials from performing their duties.

Mann and Cheema said that Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh should initiate exemplary action against the errant MLA by allowing legal action against him so that the message reached out to others in the scheme of things.

The AAP MP said that on the one hand, while the Punjab Police and the government were launching ‘I am Harjit Singh’ campaign to boost the morale of the police force, on the other, upright officers were subjected to humiliation by none other than the political masters.

Harpal Singh Cheema on the occasion said that no MLA, Minister of the ruling or other parties were above the law of the land. He demanded that stricter legal action be taken against Gill to give a sense that all were equals when it came to delivering justice.
