Bhagwant Mann: How will Amarinder Govt challenge HC decision when it was given after its advocates’ consent?

Patiala/Chandigarh, April 14, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Referring to the probe carried out in the Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura firing cases and still no further outcome, thus delaying the justice to the families of the victims and the people of Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president and Lok Sabha member Bhagwant Mann said that the recent Punjab and Haryana High Court order and the resignation moved by IPS Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who was heading the SIT probing the cases; has proved the collusion between Captain Amarinder Singh and the Badals.

Addressing a press conference along with state general secretary Harchand Singh Barsat, State secretary Gagndeep Singh Chadha, State treasurer Neena Mittal, Dist. President (U) Jasbir Gandhi and Dist. President (R) Megh Chand Shermajra here on Wednesday, Bhagwant Mann said that in 2015, Guru Granth Sahib ji sacrilege had taken place in Bargari in which firing, tear gas shells and water cannons were used in which two people were martyred and many were severely injured.

He said that many raised the issue for investigation at that time but it did not reach to a meaningful conclusion yet.

He said that the report prepared by Justice Jora Singh (retd) was dumped and after coming to power, Captain Amarinder Singh had sworn in Sri Gutka Sahib, claiming to punish the culprits in the case.

He said that thereafter Justice Ranjit Singh Commission was formed and after one year, the report was tabled in the Vidhan Sabha. Mann further said that later a special investigating team (SIT) was formed under IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who worked hard and took risk for collecting evidence by visiting the places and talking to the people there.

“The SIT also produced 9 challans in the court but suddenly after three years; all that they had done was dumped,” he added. Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh and the Badals, Bhagwant Mann said, “I have been saying it for a long time that Captain and the Badals were in collusion.

Now, there is no need to place any evidence of this as their nexus has come to fore.” Further talking about the recent High Court order of quashing the SIT probe reports, Mann said that the advocates of the Punjab government were asked whether they want the CBI to probe, the Haryana police or a new SIT without Kunwar Vijay Pratap.

“It was shocking that the Captain government’s advocates opted to form a new SIT by dumping two other choices of CBI and Haryana police, given by the court. How can the Captain government challenge the HC decision when it was given after asking their consent,” said Mann.

He said that the Captain government had appointed Advocate General Atul Nanda, who has a team of 150 advocates, only for losing the case. “Four years have passed, now it will take one year in the Supreme Court and another four years in the new SIT,” he added.

Lashing out at Captain and the Badals, Mann said, “Is there no value of the lives of the two Sikhs, who got martyred. Is there no value of the injured and tortured severely by the police?” He said that now Captain was saying that he has certainty on Kunwar Vijay’s probe report, then why did he not bring good advocates to back the reports in the court.

Mann said that in the last elections, the name of Sukhbir Badal was coming up and to get over the elections hassle free, they got him transferred. “Captain has tainted the career of an honest police officer and is now doing a ‘drama’ by appreciating the officer and showing certainty on his report,” he said.

“Kunwar Vijay Pratap’s resignation is a slap on Captain-Badals nexus. The officer has shown that he does not want to continue in such an atmosphere,” he added. Mann said that every child of Punjab knows who are the culprits in the case but Captain Amarinder has worked hard to save the accused.

He said that the Badals had also taken back the cases of City Centre scam and Improvement Trust against Captain and now Captain was paying that debt with interest. Both are working in collusion,” he said.

Mann said in all this, the people of Punjab were suffering the most. “I had been saying it for a long time not to expect justice from Captain Amarinder, his collusion with the Badals and putting the case on the backburner has been exposed to the people,” said Mann.

He said that the SIT reports can be made public now as they were produced in the court and come under public domain. Mann said that the family of the victims says that they will get the names of the accused published and distribute the pamphlets.

Responding to the mediapersons, Mann said that after formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government, action would be taken in the case and the culprits, including any politician would be put behind bars.
