Bathinda Thermal Plant: AAP MLAs appeal people to save Bathinda’s heritage dedicated to Baba Nanak

Chandigarh, 12 September, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has reprimanded the Amarinder Singh government for destroying the existence of Bathinda Thermal Plant dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev ji and said that if the government dared to demolish Bathinda Thermal Plant in the interest of land mafia then people of Punjab will overthrow the Congress government.

In a joint statement issued from the party headquarters, AAP MLAs Baljinder Kaur, Principal Budhram, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Meet Hayer, Rupinder Kaur Ruby and Master Baldev Singh said, “The Bathinda Thermal Plant was set up in 1969 on the occasion of the 500th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, but the Amarinder Singh government which is all out for implementing the anti-public sector policies of Badal government, has taken a u-turn on its election manifesto and has now started the process of demolition of Bathinda thermal plant.

The Board of Directors of Thermal Plant and the organizations based on expert engineers of the Power Board had suggested that if the coal based units of the Bathinda Thermal Plant estimated to remain operational till 2031had to be shut down then they could be run on straw.

Solar power plants can be set up on hundreds of acres of land which has been left vacant to dispose of ashes, but the Amarinder Singh government has thrown these lucrative proposals in the trash and has awarded Rs 164 crore contract to a Mumbai-based company for demolition of Bathinda Thermal Plant.

The AAP MLAs called for a mass movement against this process of the government and appealed to the people of Punjab to unite to save this precious heritage of Bathinda dedicated to Baba Nanak and force the government to reverse the decision.
