Batala Police Freezes Amritsar’s Hotel Alpine Found to be Harbouring Den for Drug Smugglers

Batala, Jan 24, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state, Batala Police has frozen a prominant Hotel Alpine in Amritsar, valued approximately at Rs 4.5 crores, after it was found to be harbouring a drug den in Room No. 103, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Batala Suhail Qasim Mir here on Friday.

The investigation, which stemmed from FIR No. 110 dated 21.09.2024, revealed the hotel management’s complicity in shielding illegal activities. In this case, Batala Police had arrested three drug smugglers and recovered 2.8 kg heroin from their possession.

SSP Suhail Qasim Mir said that the investigation of backward and forward linkages in the case found that the Hotel’s Room number 103 was being used to facilitate narcotics smuggling operations.Evidences also confirmed that the hotel was strategically used to evade detection and support the narcotics supply chain, he added.

“Room No 103 was specifically reserved for drug smugglers, who used it as a base for coordinating heroin smuggling operations across the international border,” he said, while adding that the drug peddlers were also using the room to store drugs and meet other operatives to facilitate their illicit trade.

The SSP said that following the revelations, a case was sent to the competent authority to forfeit the property under section 68F of the NDPS act. Notably, section 68F of the NDPS allows to freeze illegally acquired property by the drug suppliers.

He said that following the approval from the competent authority, the Batala Police has forfeited the Hotel Alpine located at Ajit Nagar Road at Katra Ahluwalia in Amritsar.

SSP Batala Suhail Qasim Mir categorically said that the freezing of Hotel Alpine is a strong warning to those aiding drug networks. The Batala Police will continue taking stringent actions to eradicate this menace and safeguard our communities, he said.
