Baisakhi festival back at Kanjhali Wetland after 20 years, conveys message of environmental protection

The magnificent ‘Baisakhi Mela’ reorganised at Kanjhali Wetland after 20 years successfully conveyed the message of conservation of environment.

The initiative of reviving the fair was taken by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vishesh Sarangal and the district administration reiterated its commitment to make all possible efforts to redevelop the Kanjhli wetland as a tourism hub.

While speaking on the occasion, DC Vishesh Sarangal said that the Kanjhali Wetland would be developed for shooting of films, songs and music albums by laying special emphasis on cleanliness and its ancient look.

Apart from the other traditional items, products made by Self Help Groups (SHGs) were also on display during the fair to promote antiques and handicrafts. Folk singer Dalwinder Dayalpuri and Sufi Sisters enthralled the audience at the fair. Dayalpuri highlighted the importance of Punjab’s heritage, folk heroes and Baisakhi in his famous songs.

In addition, various presentations were performed by school children which included Ganesh Vandana and Shabad singing, various forms of culture such as bhangta, giddha, fancy dress competitions and street play. Choreography dedicated to Baisakhi by Lyallpur Khalsa College Kapurthala was the center of attraction. The Gidha of Hindu Kanya College students made the fair a success.

Apart from this, singer Jas Kanjali also performed in the fair.

The Deputy Commissioner felicitated the officers and employees who rendered excellent services during the fair. Additional Deputy Commissioner Urban Development Mrs. Anupam Kaler made special contributions in the success of the fair. On the Occasion Aam Aadmi Party leader Gursharan Singh Kapoor, SDM Dr. Jai Inder Singh and officials of other departments were present.
