The SIT formed by Capt Amarinder Singh government to probe the infamous Sacrilege cases and Behbal Kalan & Kotkapura firing cases has arrayed former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal as accused in ‘some of the cases’ related to the above cases.
This was claimed, revealed and conveyed by Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh IPS, a prominent member of the Special Investigation Team in an application moved before the District & Sessions Judge, Faridkot.
In his two page plaint signed by Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh on behalf of the SIT, with a specific purpose, informed the court that both Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal have been arrayed as accused in ‘some of the cases.’
The SIT informed the court that both Badal and Sukhbir have already joined the investigation in these cases. He also said that ‘mere involvemenet of political persons as accused in any case or cases does not mean that the investigation is politically motivated or the investigation team is working with some political motive. As is the settled law of the land is that the investigation of a case is carried out as per principles and provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure under the guiding principles laid down under the constitution of India.
Citing that both Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal have been examined during the investigation of these cases; and have been arrayed as accused in some cases, the SIT member said that all these cases are neither mutually exclusive nor completely similar but are inter-related in nature and scope.
The IPS officer further informed that court that the SIT has reliably learnt that there is a close family linkage of a judge with the family of Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal as already arrayed as accused in these cases.
In light of the mentioned circumstances, the SIT has prayed not to entrust any case or part of the case at any stage to that particular judge, in the larger interest of justice.
The above application was moved today under signatures of Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh through District Attorney (Prosecution) Faridkot.
