Senior BJP leader and former Punjab Minister Lakshmi Kanta Chawla Friday said that Former Punjab Chief Ministers Parkash Singh Badal and Capt Amarinder Singh have committed a blunder during recently concluded elections.
Known for not mincing her words, Ms Chawla said both the leaders committed blunder of fighting elections this time.
She said Badal should not have fought election at this age and opined that he must have been compelled by his son Sukhbir Singh Badal to contest the election one last time.
She said former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh also made the same blunder. “He should neither have floated his own political party nor contested the recent elections,” she said.
The two big-guns of Punjab politics had to bite the dust at the hands of AAP leaders. Amarinder, who contested as candidate of his recently launched Punjab Lok Congress from his seat Patiala Urban, was defeated with a huge margin of 19873 votes by SAD leader turned AAP candidate Ajit Pal Singh Kohli.
The Badal senior, five times Chief Minister of the state, who was aspiring to hit a six with a win this time, was defeated by AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Khudian by a margin of 11396 votes.
