Sardar Manpreet Singh Ayali, MLA from Dakha and House Leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, has strongly opposed the requirement for students at Panjab University, Chandigarh, to submit an affidavit.
He criticized the inclusion of a condition in the affidavit that prohibits students from protesting against any department or authority.
According to Sardar Ayali, if any student or student organization violates this condition, the university administration will take strict action against them.
He described this requirement as entirely illegal, undemocratic, and unconstitutional, arguing that it infringes upon the ‘right to speak’ guaranteed in the Constitution.
Sardar Ayali condemned this as blatant bullying by the Panjab University administration, asserting that it cannot be tolerated at any cost. He expressed his firm support for the students in their fight against this oppression.
Sardar Ayali acknowledged the achievements of Panjab University, highlighting its role in producing influential individuals who have contributed significantly to Punjab and the nation. These alumni have held prestigious positions and have brought recognition to Punjab, its people, and the university itself.
He noted that the student leadership at Panjab University has played an essential role in the country’s progress by providing competent leadership in various fields.
He characterized the requirement for affidavits as part of a larger conspiracy to stifle the emergence of young leaders. Sardar Ayali stated that he will vigorously oppose this conspiracy and will work to ensure that the affidavit requirement is eliminated.
