Assistance under PMGKAY Scheme in Punjab & UT Chandigarh

The Government of India has implemented centrally sponsored pro-poor initiative titled under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna as a part of Economic response to COVID-19 to ameliorate the hardship faced by the poor due to the economic disruption caused by Corona Virus and to ensure that the foodgrains @ 5KG /Person/ month free of cost for three months i.e. April-June-2020 are available to all beneficiaries(AAY and PHH card holders) covered under this Scheme.

The said scheme is also applicable to the beneficiaries who receive benefit under NFSA in the form of Direct Benefit Scheme in UT Chandigarh and accordingly stocks of foodgrain has also been released to UT Chandigarh.

As per this Govt of India scheme, the allocation of wheat for April to June-2020 is being issued in advance for Punjab and UT Chandigarh.

Under the directions of CMD Sh. D. V. Prasad, Food Corporation of India, FCI Punjab has taken immediate steps in the State of Punjab and UT Chandigarh and approved for issuance of release orders for entire allocated quantity for Punjab- 2,12,175 MT valued at approx. Rs.594.09 crores, out of which till date 1,11,658 MT stocks has been lifted by the State authority (including 30897 MT from DCP stocks) valued at approx. Rs.312.64 Crores. In UT Chandigarh, against total allocation of 4127.085 MT stocks have been lifted entirely valued at approx. Rs.11.56 Crores.

The lifting of the stocks is an ongoing process and the stocks of wheat are being released totally on credit basis through FCI for which the Government of India shall bear the entire expenditure on this account which is approx. Rs.605.65 Crores for Punjab & UT Chandigarh.
