India defeated Bangladesh 3-0 without dropping a single game to storm into the men’s badminton team quarter-finals at the Asian Games here on Monday.

Lakshya Sen gave India the lead with a comfortable win over Jaman Ayman Ibn before Ayush Shetty defeated Gourab Singha to make it 2-0. Kidambi Srikanth then sealed the tie with a straight-game victory over Jumar Al-Amin.

Paris 2024 semi-finalist Lakshya beat Ayman Ibn 21-4, 21-12, while Ayush registered a convincing 21-4, 21-13 victory over Singha.

Srikanth completed the 3-0 win with a 21-15, 21-9 victory against Jumar Al-Amin.

India will face hosts Japan in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, with victory in the tie assuring the team of a medal.

The Indian team, which won silver in the men’s team event at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, progressed without needing to field its doubles combinations. This included world No. 5 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the reigning Asian Games men’s doubles champions.

The quarter-final against Japan could feature several high-profile match-ups. Lakshya could face Kodai Naraoka, while Ayush may meet Yushi Tanaka. Satwik and Chirag could potentially take on the Japanese pairing of Hiroki Okamura and Takuro Hoki, depending on the tie-ups.

At Hangzhou 2023, India defeated the Republic of Korea 3-2 in the semi-finals before losing to China in the gold-medal match and settling for silver.

The Indian women’s team will also take on Japan in the quarter-finals on Tuesday after opening its campaign with a 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan on Sunday.
