Aruna Chaudhary visits Hoshiarpur family, asks BJP to introspect what they did in Hathras

Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Aruna Chaudhary on Sunday evening went to village Jalalpur to share her sympathies with the bereaved family of six year old girl who was raped, murdered and set on fire a few days back.

Interacting with the family, the Minister assured that the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is personally looking into the day to day proceedings in the matter to ensure as early as possible presentation of challan in the Court besides ensuring justice to the family at the earliest.

Accompanied by the CM’s Political Secretary and Urmur MLA Sangat Singh Gilzian and the Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Apneet Riyait, the Social Security Minister assured that the Punjab Government stood by the family in this hour of crisis and grief and the accused would not be spared at any cost.

She informed that the police is going to present Challan in court soon after that the case would be tried on fast track to ensure exemplary punishment to accused on one hand and justice to the aggrieved family without any delay on the other.

Answering questions of media persons, the Minister accused the Bhartiya Janata Party leadership for its attempt to reap political benefit from this sensitive incident and asked the BJP to introspect itself for what they did in Hathras.

Responding to another query regarding comparison of Tanda incident with Hathras, Aruna Chaudhary clarified that the entire nation was fully aware about the facts and truth of both incidents. She lashed out at BJP for politicizing the issue despite they blatantly ignored human rights and sentiments of the Hathras family by openly shielding the accused and cremated the rape victim in the wee hours.

Pointing out that in Tanda incident, Aruna Chaudhary said, the Punjab Police took swift action with the filing of FIR and arrest of accused within short period of time immediately after the incident was reported. She said that the BJP should introspect in Hathras case and take lesson from the action taken by the Punjab Police and the State Government, which was always committed to protect the rights and interests of women.

PUNJAB GOVERNMENT TAKES SEVERAL MEASURES FOR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Giving a call to all sections of society to come forward for taking the awareness at the grassroots level regarding women respect and empowerment, the Minister said that Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had taken path-breaking initiatives in this regard including setting-up of hostels for working women besides establishing SAKHI-One Stop Centres in each district to safeguard the interests of women.

She said that during the lockdown period alone as many as 706 cases of domestic violence against women were reported and necessary action were being taken by the concerned authority to ensure justice to victim women.

Referring to another query, the Minister said that the Punjab Government had also made 50 reservation in Panchayati Raj Institution and Urban Local Bodies for women as well as recently in a unique endeavour the State Government had decided to reserve 33 percent seats for women in Government jobs in future recruitments.
