Aruna Chaudhary calls upon women to play pro active role in plantation & maintenance drive of trees

Underlining the commitment of the Punjab Government’s to provide green and clean environment to the people of the state, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary called upon the women to play a pro active role in the plantation of saplings throughout the State.

In a statement issued here today, Mrs. Chaudhary said that the State Government has initiated a campaign to plant 550 saplings in each village of the state on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Prakash Purb. The target of plantation of saplings is fixed 72 lac for the entire state.

Mrs. Chaudhary appealed to the women to undertake large-scale plantation of trees such as, Shisham, Mango, Ashoka, Jamun, Imli, etc. in their homes and backyard, to ensure better green cover, besides yielding fruits. She said that such an effort would be a tribute and devotion to Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, who gave lot of emphasis on the importance of the environment.

Government nurseries are providing different types of saplings to the general public free of cost. The saplings can also be booked on the i-haryali app and everyone can get 25 saplings free of cost according to their choice. She said that maintenance of the plants is very important in addition to their plantation and this job can be done properly by the women.

It is important here to note that around 56 lac saplings have been planted across the state since last week. The plantation work has been completed in nearly 9,000 villages out of almost 13000 villages. The state government is performing the task of planting different plants with the help of panchayats and MGNREGA.
