The Indian Army on Monday detected and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing approximately 10 kg in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, averting a potential threat to civilians and security personnel, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a formation under the Army’s Spear Corps detected the IED in the South Thanjing forest area.
The Army said the device was safely neutralised, ensuring the safe movement of people and security forces in the area. In a post on X, the Spear Corps said the timely action prevented a potential threat to the local population and security forces and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Manipur.
The operation came less than 24 hours after security forces recovered three IEDs weighing around 20 kg from a jungle area between Leishabithol and Ahamadabad in Jiribam district, near the southern border of Assam.
The three explosives were detected on Sunday following specific intelligence inputs during an operation conducted by Spear Corps formations in coordination with the Manipur Police. They were neutralised at the site through controlled demolition, averting a potential threat to life and property.
A defence spokesperson said the joint operation demonstrated the vigilance, operational readiness and coordination among security agencies working to maintain peace in the region.
In a separate operation, the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and YADAM (Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol, Manipur) conducted an anti-narcotics operation in the Khergao-Naharup areas of Kakching district based on reliable intelligence.
Two alleged drug peddlers, identified as Md. Riyaz Khan, 48, and Dandshawa Molody, 26, both residents of Chandel district, were arrested.
Ten soap cases containing heroin were recovered and seized from their possession, along with a Honda Activa and a Ford Figo, according to a police official.
