The Punjab Government has ordered the suspension of Lakhbir Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) with the Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar.
While the government has not officially disclosed the precise grounds for the action, sources indicate that the suspension is linked to an ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in tenders connected with development projects worth approximately ₹55 crore. These works reportedly pertain to the upscale Ranjit Avenue area and involve suspected misappropriation of substantial public funds.
According to unconfirmed reports, the matter came to light after a complaint was submitted by an IAS officer, prompting a preliminary examination by the authorities. Meanwhile, some media accounts have also hinted at the possible involvement of a well-known social activist from the city in relation to the development works under scrutiny.
Officials have maintained silence on the details, stating that further information will be shared as the investigation progresses.
