Congress MP from Amritsar, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, expressed deep concern and lodged a strong protest over the mistreatment of Indian youth deported from Malaysia. The MP stated that while returning from Delhi today, he met the youth who were forcibly deported from Malaysia at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport.
MP Aujla stated that these youth had gone to Malaysia on tourist and employment visas, but were subjected to extremely humiliating and inhumane treatment by airport and government officials. In some cases, the youth also complained of physical and mental harassment. He stated that the specific targeting of the Punjabi community in such incidents is extremely serious and worrying.
Gurjeet Singh Aujla strongly condemned the Malaysian government’s actions, stating that such treatment of any Indian citizen on foreign soil is unacceptable. This matter is not limited to the personal problems of a few young people, but is an international issue concerning the dignity, honor, and safety of Indian citizens.
The MP stated that after hearing the young people’s complaints, the matter will be brought to the attention of Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He also stated that immediate discussions will be held with the Indian Embassy in Malaysia to ensure that no Indian citizen is subjected to such humiliation in the future.
MP Aujla also linked this issue to social harmony, stating that attempts to divide Punjab along caste, religion, and class lines, inflammatory videos, and hate-mongering on social media are now impacting innocent people internationally. He stated that this type of thinking originated in Punjab, and the consequences are now being felt by ordinary youth.
He stated clearly that dividing society on the basis of caste and religion is not our culture or tradition. He firmly stands up for the dignity, safety, and rights of the country’s youth, and the government should take strict action on this issue. It is the primary responsibility of the country to ensure that Indian citizens abroad feel safe and respected.
