Amarinder should’ve cancelled all engagements, ensured farmers were not subjected to barbaric treatment: SAD

Chandigarh, November 25, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said it was tragic that while the farmers of Punjab and their families were being lashed with water cannons on their way to Delhi in freezing cold wave conditions, chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh was holding a royal banquet for former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Terming the utterly insensitive behavior of the chief minister as similar to the Emperor Nero who played the fiddle while Rome burnt, former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was shocking that instead of cancelling all engagements and ensuring Punjab farmers were not subjected to barbaric treatment at the hands of Haryana police, the chief minister chose to host a royal feast for the former minister.

Dr Daljit Cheema said the chief minister should be more sensitive to the pain of the people of Punjab. “Surely you know that thousands of farmers are on the roads since yesterday after being stopped at the Haryana border and spent the night in the cold amidst freezing weather conditions.

Today these farmers were even lashed with water cannons while trying to move forward towards Delhi. “It was your duty as chief minister to try to ensure no atrocity was committed on the farmers of Punjab. You should have taken up the issue with the central government immediately. But you chose to remain busy in hosting a luncheon meeting”.

Telling the chief minister to be alive to the tragedy unfolding before his eyes, Dr Cheema said Capt Amarinder should take up the issues raised by the farmers with the centre immediately. “He should take up the need for assured government purchase of food grains at minimum support price (msp) with the centre.

The chief minister should also take up all other grievances of the farmers with the centre and work to resolve the present crisis instead of keeping himself busy in partying”.
