Amarinder must take moral responsibility for failed ‘Operation Fatehveer’, resign: AAP

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly Harpal Singh Cheema has expressed his deep shock over the glaring lapse on the part of Captain Amarinder Singh Government to save the life of Fatehveer Singh (2), who fell into a 128-foot deep borewell in Punjab’s Sangrur district more than six days ago. The heart-wrenching incident has sent shock waves across the state.

Slamming both the central and state governments for their apathetic stance to carry out the rescue operations under the watch of untrained teams which lacked professional acumen and knowhow, stating that the little child fell prey to the highly paralyzed system at a time when the country bragged about making strides in its scientific field and skill expertise.

Talking to media persons at the PGI Chandigarh here on Tuesday, Cheema, who was accompanied by party MLAs Kulwant Singh Pandori and Manjit Singh Bilaspur, alleged that had the government in the saddle taken timely action to save the child trapped in the borebell for days, a precious live could have been saved. He accused the state government of gruesome ‘murder’ of the child, claiming that the shoddy rescue operations had claimed his life.

The AAP leader demanded that Captain Amarinder Singh, who also holds the portfolio of Home Affairs, had forfeited his moral right to continue to hold the fort should immediately step down, which he said, would bring some little solace to the aggrieved family which had been subjected to undergo a nightmarish ordeal for days, for which those at the helms of affairs were responsible.

The AAP leader said that said that due to the lack of technical knowhow and unavailability of state-of-the-art machinery, which hampered the successful completion of the operation lasting six days. which ended up in a fiasco due to insensitive government in the state.

Holding the people of the state equally responsible for the mess saying that they elect and re-elect people lacking political will and uprightness to deliver on the ground when it came to tackling cases of this nature. He alleged that the root cause of such avoidable incidents was due to their inept handling of a paradoxical situation.

Cheema demanded the conduct of a judicious probe in the case to ensure exemplary punishment to those found guilty. He also demanded that the government should immediately release ex gratia payment of one crore to the aggrieved family and a job to the next of kin of the diseased.
