Amarinder Govt should provide financial assistance to families of Covid victims on lines of Kejriwal Govt: Harpal Cheema

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema has warmly welcomed the AAP’s Delhi government implementation of the first ever scheme in the country to provide financial assistance to the families of Covid victims and appealed to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to provide financial assistance to the families of deceased; died due to Covid in Punjab also.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Tuesday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has implemented a scheme to provide financial assistance to the family of the person who died with Covid.

He said that the family will be given Rs 50,000 in cash and Rs 2,500 pension per month as assistance.

Cheema said Arvind Kejriwal had proved that the Aam Aadmi Party government was a people-friendly government, providing free education, electricity, water, medical treatment and rations; as well as providing financial assistance to the families of those killed by the Covid virus.

He further said that the Arvind Kejriwal government had also issued strict instructions to stop the embarrassment of the recipients of this scheme and the government had asked the volunteers to go to the families of the victims and complete the paperwork.

The AAP leader said that Punjab was the resource rich state of the country and due to the second wave of Covid, many families in Punjab had lost their livelihood. Cheema said that Covid mortality rate in Punjab had been higher than the other states in the country. Therefore, the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in Punjab should learn from the Kejriwal government in Delhi, he asserted.

Cheema demanded that the Captain government should provide cash assistance of Rs 50,000 and Rs 2,500 per month pension to the families of the Covid deceased in Punjab.
