Amarinder Govt should abstain from discrediting Kejriwal govt by drawing irrational comparison: Aman Arora

Chandigarh, June 15, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has taken a strong exception to the comparison drawn by Capt. Amarinder Singh between the Kejriwl-led government in Delhi with Punjab in terms of effectively handling the Corona cases, rubbishing his frivolous and flimsy basis, rolling out facts and figures to prove him wrong.

It has warned the Captain government to stop trying to discredit the Kejriwal government by drawing irrational comparisons and focus on dealing with the epidemic, which had hit the roof in Punjaba in terms of surge in Covid-19 cases in the state.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Monday, senior party leader and MLA Aman Arora questioned the Capt Amarinder Singh government as to on what basis it was comparing Delhi with Punjab over the handling of Corona cases, instead of focusing on its colossal failures, saying both the states had nothing in common in terms of population density and size?

Arora said that the fact of the matter was that the clear picture Punjab would not come to fore until testing for corona started on a war footing, adding that out of 10 lakh population in Delhi, 14026 people were undergoing corona test on a daily basis, while in Punjab, the average number those tested is 5,900 only.

Arora said this could be easily gauged from the fact that Delhi was ranked third in the country in testing corona cases while Punjab ranked second from last (second last), calling for a ramp up the basic testing facilities, hospital beds and other arrangements on a war footing.

Aman Arora said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu should, instead of levelling false allegations against the Delhi government, look beyond and appreciate the landmark decisions taken by the government there to improve health services, saying the Delhi government earmarked 13 per cent of the budget for health, while it was shoestring 4.2 per cent in Punjab. Similarly, it had so far provided rations to 1 crore needy people and langar to around 10 lakh poor people daily amid the national lockdown.

This apart, the Delhi government was paying Rs 5,000 to all kinds of drivers during the lockdown, while pensions for the elderly and widows were doubled. The AAP leader claimed that the Delhi government paid a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of front line warrior in the event of their death in harness while fighting against Corona.

“Better would have been had the Captain Amarinder Singh should have compared Punjab with Delhi on the basis of the landmark decision taken by the government in Delhi”
