Amarinder congratulates GADVASU for No.1 ICAR ranking among State Veterinary Universities in Country

Chandigarh, December 6, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday congratulated the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana for securing the first rank amongst State Veterinary Universities in India for the year 2019.

GADVASU topped the ranking, conducted by the Education Division, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.

In his congratulatory message, Captain Amarinder Singh lauded the efforts, dedication, commitment and hard work of the faculty and staff of GADVASU for this rare honour. He also appreciated the work done by GADVASU Vice Chancellor Dr. Inderjeet Singh in achieving this coveted honour.

Terming it as a matter of great satisfaction and honour that GADVASU had got the top ranking for promotion and strengthening research programme in veterinary, dairy and fishery sector, the Chief Minister hoped that the varsity would continue its research and development in improving the quality of milch cattle besides enriching the quality of milk production across the state in terms of both quality and quantity.

Pointing out further, the Chief Minister said that GADVASU would play a frontal role in motivating the state farmers through its skill development programme to go for allied farming activities such as dairy, poultry, piggery, fishery and bee-keeping through their extension services to supplement their income, who were already passing through acute agrarian crisis due to non-remunerative prices of their produce from conventional farming.

It may be recalled that GADVASU ranked 7th among all 67 Agricultural Universities, Veterinary Universities and ICAR Research Institutes of India. Ranking was based on several parameters including student and faculty profile, student placements, research publications and citations, patents, technologies generated and transferred to farmers, resource generated and linkages.

Notably, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has also been accorded No.2 ranking amongst Agricultural Universities by ICAR for the year 2019.
