The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the Congress party and chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh were behaving like bad losers after their disinformation campaign had been exposed as a pack of lies and were now resorting to shouting from the roof tops in the hope of deceiving Punjabis yet again with their lies and false oaths in the name of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji.
Stating this former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said the chief minister should have replied to the SAD charges asking why he tried to pass away central schemes as achievements of his government besides adopting SAD-BJP government schemes.
“Instead of telling why he kept the truth from Punjabis for failing to implement even one promise made by his government, he has issued a four page rant which is nothing but a sign of a bad loser who has been caught lying and exposed thoroughly. We challenge the CM to a debate on development at the place of his choice with any Akali leader or worker”.
The Akali leader said “Capt Amarinder Singh may have failed to list one major achievement of his government due to confusion and ignorance, but we can proudly state that the SAD-BJP government ushered in an era of development in Punjab during its ten year tenure which saw Punjab progressing on every parameter before it was brought down in national rankings during Congress rule. “You are asking for one achievement I can list 20.
The SAD-BJP government made Punjab power surplus. It brought in the Bathinda refinery which you opposed. It was instrumental in creating world class infrastructure including four airports of Bathinda, Ludhiana, Mohali, Adampur and Pathankot besides completing 17 four and six lane road projects covering 1,369 kilometers at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore.”
Stating that the list was long and the chief minister should read it properly to dispel his ignorance about State affairs; Mr Majithia said major administrative reforms were initiated during the SAD-BJP government.
“This included introducing the Right to Service Act to ensure time bound services to citizens and establishment of 12,000 Sewa Kendras and Suvidha Kendras. This initiative has been discontinued by you by dismantling the Sewa Kendras”, he added.
Stating that major institutions had been established in Punjab during SAD-BJP tenure, Mr Majithia said these included AIIMS, Bathinda, IIM, Amritsar, ISB, Mohali and IIT, Ropar. He said Infosys and ITC came to Punjab during SAD-BJP rule. So did the Baba Homi Bhabha Cancer Institute, the PGI Centre at Sangrur, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Preparatory Academy at Mohali and the Central University at Bathinda.
Stating the CM should not feign ignorance, Mr Majithia said Capt Amarinder had himself appreciated some of the initiatives. “The CM is on record to have praised former chief minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal by stating the Jang-i-Azadi memorial at Kartarpur and the War Memorial at Amritsar were world class institutions”.
He said similarly the CM had praised Invest Punjab department which was established by former Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal while meeting heads of industries at Mumbai.
Asserting that this was not all, Mr Majithia said the SAD-BJP government had also witnessed preservation and propagation of the State’s rich culture.
He said the iconic Virasat –i-Khalsa museum was a brain child of S Parkash Singh Badal who had also spearheaded other monuments to commemorate the memory of Banda Singh Bahadur at Chapar Chirri and monuments commemorating the Chotta and Vadda Ghallughara.
“The Ram Teerath temple was beautified. So were the precincts of Sri Darbar Sahab which are not being maintained during your tenure”, Mr Majithia added.
Asking the chief minister to give answers on facts and not to indulge in a chest beating exercise, the Akali leader said “I have given you a brief list of the achievements of the SAD-BJP government.
I can also provide you a detailed booklet to refresh your memory. As far your performance is concerned, it was exposed earlier by your own Leader of Opposition who admitted on the floor of the House that all your previous government did was patch work of roads”.
Stating that such exhortations would not convince Punjabis, Mr Majithia told the chief minister “Please learn from Sardar Badal. You are not only not performing by discriminating against each and every section of society be it farmers, youth, dalits, school children, old aged, industry and traders but also keeping away from them by sub-letting governance to others.
This is why you are in such a situation where you have to launch massive disinformation campaigns in the media to convince Punjabis you are not a failure. Such campaigns won’t help. Work will. Please pull up your socks and start working by implementing the promises made by you by taking an oath on the charan of Dasam Pitah Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji”, Mr Majithia added.
