in what is being seen as a development of immense and far reaching ideological and political implications , the family of the late iconic Akali stalwart and the longest-serving SGPC president Jathedar Gurcharan Singh today rejoined the SAD at their residence here this afternoon
Welcoming Jathedar Tohra’s son in law Jathedar Harmel Singh Tohra , daughter Biba Kuldip Kaur and grandson Harinder Pal Singh Tohra into the party , the SAD president Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “The hearts of lovers of Khalsa Panth will be overjoyed today. Every “Panth dardi” will have a peaceful sleep tonight as Panthic mainstream stands as a united family again today.”
The development comes close on the heels of the former Congress leaders Jagmeet Singh Brar , Ripjit Singh Brar joining SAD yesterday
Mr Badal presented siropas to Jathedar Harmel Singh Tohra , BIbi Tohra and Harinder Pal Singh Tohra. Laddoos were distributed among party workers and the media persons on the occasion.
Talking to media persons, Mr Badal said that former Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal would be the happiest person today. “His wish of seeing brothers’ family living in one home has been fulfilled, “
The SAD president said that ever since his childhood, he had observed that for more than half s century , the Badal-Tohra duo had been a part of the religio-political psyche of the people of Punjab. The two waged long and most difficult struggles together and steered the Panth out of severe crises. They even provided leadership to the whole country when Mrs Indira Gandhi had imposed the internal Emergency in the country and had killed all the democratic rights of the people. “
Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal virtually floored the media with his disarming humility today. Answering a query on the leaders of a breakaway faction of Akalis , Mr Badal described Mr Ranjit Singh Brahampura as “mere pita samaan”( as worthy of my respect as my father Sardar Parkash Singh Badal is ). I cannot be presumptuous enough to comment on the remarks against me by those whom I have always respected. I hold Jathedar Brahampura, Jathedar Sekhwan and Dr Rattan Singh Ajnala in the highest esteem- and always will , no matter what provocation,” said Mr Badal
Answering a question on the poll prospects of his party in the Patiala constituency, Mr Badal said that the main fight there was between SAD candidate Surjit Singh Rakhra and Mr Gandhi. Madam Preneet Kaur will finish a poor third. The false oath in the name of the sacred charan of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj by Captain Amarinder Singh plus the betrayal of the people by him and his party’s govt is going to haunt the Congress in these elections. Punjabis will teach them a lesson, ” said Mr Badal adding that Mr Rakhra will win by a margin of over one lakh votes.
