AIU Secretary General inaugurates GNDU Zonal Youth Festival

Today, Dr (Mrs) Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) inaugurated the third Zonal Youth festival of Guru Nanak Dev University by lighting the lamp in the Dasmesh Auduitroium of the University. Students-artists from 20 Government, Constituent Colleges and Associate Institutes of the University, teacher-incharges and other guests were present. About 550 student-artists will participate in 35 items of Music, Theatre, Dance, Literary & Fine Arts.

Dr. (Mrs.) Pankaj Mittal said that AIU organizes youth programmes, which provide the youth an opportunity for a healthy interaction thereby instilling in them an awareness of our historical and cultural heritage alongwith Personality Development, Building Youth Leadership, National Character, Human & Cultural Values.

She said that this is the first time that AIU will organize Asian Universitities Festival alongwith International Youth Festival in near future. She said that this festival will promote active collaboration and mutual understanding amongst the Asian countries in educational, social & cultural fields. It will encourage the youth from the Asian Countries to come to common platform for sharing views, experiences, innovations and common ideas.

In the pandemic situation, She said that AIU organized youth related activities on virtual basis. She said that AIU had organized an online event of cultural activities entitled “Kuch Artistic Karo-na”, to stay connected with the students of higher education institutions in which about 600 higher education institutions participated and shared their online videos in different categories of cultural events.

Prof. Anish Dua, Dean Student’s Welfare welcomed Dr (Mrs) Mittal with bouquet of flowers. While sharing his views, he said that Dr. Mittal is the second women Secretary General of the Association in its 96 years of existence.

Prior to joining AIU, she has been serving the higher education sector especially university education for more than 03 decades at the apex regulator of higher education, the University Grants Commission of India. He said that Dr. Mittal earlier served as the first regular Vice Chancellor of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur.

Earlier, Dr. Amandeep Singh welcomed the student-artists & teachers of Government, Constituent Colleges and Associates Institutes alongwith guests & audience. Sh. Baljit Singh Sekhon, Advisor, Dr. Tejwant Singh Kang, Dr. Parambir Singh Malhi, Dr. Munish Saini, Dr. Prabh Simran Singh, Dr. Gurpreet Singh and Dr. Satnam Singh Deol, who are mentoring students, were also present.

Today, the competitions of Bhangra, Group Shabad/Bhajan, Group Song (Indian) and Folk Orchestra were organized in the Dashmesh Auditorium. On the stage of Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium, Classical Instrumental (Percussion), Classical Instrumental (Non-Percussion), Classical Vocal and on the stage of Architecture Department the competitons of Painting on the Spot, Cartooning, Poster Making, Collage, Clay Modeling, On the Sopt Photography and Installation were organized.

Tomorrow, the competions of Costume Parade, Mime, Mimicry, Skit, One Act Play will be organized in the Dasmesh Auditorium and Vaar Singing, Kawishri, Geet/Gazal, Folk Song will be held in the Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium.

In the Conference Hall of the University, the competitions of Poetical Symposium, Elocution, Debate, Quiz Preliminary will be arranged. On the last i.e. October 31, General Group Dance, Gidha and Western Vocal Solo, Western Group Song & Western Instrumental will be held in the Dasmesh Auditorium & Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium.

On the Archecture Deparment Stage, the competitions of Rangoli, Phulkari and Mehndi will be organized. On this last day, the prize distribution function will be held in the Dasmesh Auditorium of the University at 2.30 pm.
