The Shiromani Akali Dal today demanded immediate transfer of all state Intelligence officials including the top bras who face charges of compromising the peace and security of the border state of Punjab and indulging in linked in gross and brazen electoral malpractices to provide “illegal, illegitimate and immoral” to help the ruling Congress party.
“ sensitive intelligence inputs were shared with a private company seriously jeopardising security considerations just to subvert the entire electoral process in Punjab.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Harcharan Singh Bains Principal Advisor to Akali Dal President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, said that the party had filed a complaint with Election Commission of India detailing how Intelligence Wing was used by the Congress party by placing it at the disposal of it a private Agency to illegally acquire inputs about prospective candidates of opposition parties and ways to threaten them to withdraw from elections.
He said that SAD had given detailed account of working of Intelligence wing officials with Private Agency namely ‘MovDekPOLITICO’ in securing inputs. He said that party has urged ECI that the continued presence of these officers on active duty would make a free and fair poll impossible. Apart from the fact that inaction on the part of EC would bring its own role as an impartial authority under a thick cloud of suspicion, it will also embolden other officers and the entire government machinery to continue to help the ruling party in reckless and fearless abandon.
Electoral process in the state would be reduced to a joke Inviting international ridicule against the world’s largest democracy. All this amounts to a massive electoral malpractice requiring immediate intervention by the EC. He said that we have no doubt that you will act expeditiously on our request as every minute that passes without would mock democracy and the role of the Election Commission would lose all credibility in Punjab.
In its complaint party has said that the Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police,which is mandated to provide sensitive inputs to help in maintenance of Law & Order and check threats to peace, indulged in dubious activities through brazen abuse of authority to further the cause of Congress in the impending Assembly elections with the motive of bringing it back to power. l
The complaint said that these officers were posted after the new Congress regime under the new CM took over as they are staunch Congress loyalists, and the afore-mentioned IGPis also a very close friend of CM, Punjab, as they used to study law at Panjab University, Chandigarh, together. These two officers are misusing the officials of the Intelligence Wing as well as the Secret Service Fund which is meant for judicious use in operational duties related to maintenance of Law & Order, control of crime and to check terrorist/gangster and other activities in the State.
It said that on 1stDecember 2021, the ADGP and the IGP,along with AIGs of Intelligence Wing posted at the Intelligence Headquarters, held a review meeting in this regard with the Zonal AIGs of Intelligence Wing at Intelligence Headquarters, Mohali. In this meeting, officials of the afore-mentioned agency as well as other officers from Intelligence headquarters were also present.
This is blatant misuse of power by the ruling party and may influence the outcome of the elections which is against the spirit of free and fair polls and will deal a lethal blow to democratic institutions as well as democracy itself.
