Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar strongly condemned the derogatory comment made by Uttarakhand’s Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat, whose viral video shows him mocking a Sikh man during a political rally with the insulting phrase “12 baj gaye.” Nijjar said such statements are deeply shameful and unbecoming of any political leader in a diverse nation like India.
Nijjar asserted that making fun of someone’s religion, identity, appearance, caste or colour is not only immoral but reflects the Congress party’s ingrained anti-Sikh mindset. He said this is not an isolated case, but a continuation of Congress’ long, painful history against Punjab and Sikhs.
He reminded that during the country’s partition, it was Punjab alone that was divided, causing massive loss to Punjabi and Sikh families. Later, Punjab’s water rights were attacked, followed by the tragic events of 1984, Operation Blue Star and the Sikh genocide, in which several Congress leaders like Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath were accused and yet rewarded with senior positions by the party.
Nijjar said it is especially disturbing that such insulting remarks are being made during the Shaheedi days of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who sacrificed his life for religious freedom. “The Sikh community has always stood firmly with the nation, but Congress has repeatedly stood against Sikhs,” he said.
Nijjar demanded that Congress immediately apologise to the Sikh community and take strict action against Harak Singh Rawat.
