AAP walkouts from Assembly over derogatory remarks by Ashu against ‘Valmiki’ community

Chandigarh, March, 2, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aap Aadmi Party (AAP) during the budget session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Monday, staged a walkout over the egregious statement made by Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu against the Valmiki community, which had went viral on social media, demanding action against the minister.

During the Zero Hour on Monday, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema raised the issue over the viral video involving Cabinet Minister Ashu passing derogatory remarks against the community, demanding stern action against him.

Harpal Singh Cheema said the incident had exposed the anti-Dalit face of the controversial minister Ashu. Cheema sought speaker’s permission to make the Minister’s viral video public on the floor of the House, to which the Speaker refused.

Cheema said that Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh had been offering cover to the tainted minister, who was allegedly involved in the multi-crore Ludhiana CLU scam, brow-beating a DSP rank officer, the Gur Mandi bomb blast and now passing nasty comment against the Valmiki community, with no action in sight by the government in the saddle.

He called upon MLAs from all political parties to cut across party lines and support AAP move to initiate action against Ashu. When Cheema’s mike was turned off at the behest of speaker, the AAP MLAs, led by Harpal Singh Cheema, stage a walk out amid slogan shouted.

Others who were a part of the walk-out included Principal Budh Ram, Prof. Baljinder Kaur, Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, Aman Arora, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Meet Hayer, Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Jai Singh Singh Rauri, Manjit Singh Bilaspur and Master Baldev Singh (All MLAs).
