AAP to move resolution against anti-farmer ordinances, Power Amendment Bill in Assembly

Chandigarh, August 24, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has intensified its struggle for the repeal of three anti-farm Agriculture Ordinances and Power Amendment Bill-2020, which remained the focal point of Punjab’s political arena amid the Corona epidemic.

Senior leader of the party and Sunam MLA Aman Arora has sought permission from Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh to table a motion in this regard under Rule 71 of the Vidhan Sabha Rules during the on-day long Vidhan Sabha session on August 28.

Giving sight lights of the resolution, Arora said the three Agriculture Ordinances and the Power Amendment Bill 2020 pushed by the Union Government were contrary to the federal structure of the country, besides impinging on the rights of the States. He said the farmers would be left at the mercy of big corporate houses and rural economy of Punjab would go for a toss if the ordinances were implemented.

Similarly, if the Power Amendment Bill 2020 became a law, the entire gamut would go into the hands of big corporate houses and different rates of electricity would be charged from rural and urban consumers, with the powers vested with State Electricity Regulatory Commission would go to the Center, and the state government would not be able to protect its own interests. He said the anti-farm move would indirectly hit the farmers, traders, urban, laboring consumers of the state.

It may be recalled that for the past three months the farmers’ organizations in the state had been waging a grim battle in this regard. Arora on the occasion urged upon all the political parties to rise above their petty political interests and come forward to save the farmers, traders, laborers and, to cap it all, the economy of Punjab, by supporting the resolutions unanimously in the Vidhan Sabha on August 28.Yes Punjab Online Since 2012
